Alongside Lay Z Spa’s classic additions, such as a rapid heat system and freeze shield protection, the Havana hot tub includes wi-fi controls as standard and the brand’s new and updated digital control panel.

What We Liked - Key Features

WI-FI controls

The most premium feeling of the features that Lay Z Spa has introduced to its new line of models, the Havana’s wi-fi controls, make setting up and adjusting all of your hot tub’s main features as easy as physically possible.

By connecting the wi-fi enabled pump to your home’s router during set-up, you’ll be able to control everything from the power of the air jets to the temperature of the water, all from the easy-to-use interface of Lay Z Spa’s official wi-fi app for Android and IOS systems.

Duraplus construction

Any high-quality inflatable style hot tub must be able to withstand an awful lot of use; thanks to Lay Z Spa’s improved Duraplus construction materials, the Havana hot tub is brilliant at holding its shape and resisting punctures. No matter how many times it’s inflated and deflated throughout the year.

The Duraplus lining is great at withstanding damage and wear, but it provides a great deal of comfort and support when fully inflated, with a cushioned mosaic patterned floor that provides both insulated protection and textured grip when manoeuvring inside the hot tub.

120 airjet massage system

The Lay Z Spa Havana features 120 powerful bubble jets as standard, with their entire operation able to be easily controlled via the simple functionality of Lay Z Spa’s official wi-fi app.

With the massaging jets placed around the entire circumference of the Havana’s cushioned floor, this hot tub can produce an all surrounding massage experience. With the power-saving mode and energy-saving timer on hand to, keep an eye on your energy bills should you get a little too comfortable?

Is This a WI-FI Controlled Hot Tub?

Yes, the Lay Z Spa Havana includes wi-fi functionality as standard. The Wi-fi enabled pump and app-based control system allow all of the hot tub’s main features to be adjusted without the need to access the digital control panel.

The pump must be connected to your router before the hot tub is installed and will only work with a router configuration of 2.4GHz. Provided that these needs are met, you’ll be able to seamlessly control your massage system, water temperature and other prominent features with the tap of a button.

Does This Model Have Lighting?

No, the Lay Z Spa Havana does not include a lighting system as standard. However, several floating light accessories and compatible lighting systems can be purchased directly from Lay Z Spa or other hot tub brands.

How Many People Can it Accommodate?

The Lay Z Spa Havana can accommodate up to 4 average-sized adults to comfortably recline.

We think this hot tub offers enough space for a small family of 2 adults and 2 children to reasonably fit. We would recommend a hot tub of this size to couples more than any other group, as the legroom provided when only 2 adults are using this hot tub is much more comfortable.

What About Safety Features?

Like all other modern Lay Z Spa models, the Havana hot tub includes several great safety features.

The included inflatable lid and secure clip cover work to prevent any children or pets from accidentally falling into the water when your hot tub is not in use. An internal ground fault detection system will alert you to any electrical faults that may occur within the hot tub’s circuitry.

There’s also an RCD unit inside the Havana’s wiring that will ultimately cut the power to the hot tub if any water comes into contact with the electrics.

Detailed Review

How comfortable is the Havana hot tub?

The Lay Z Spa Havana hot tub is an exceptionally comfortable model, thanks mainly to its premium Duraplus lining and supportive cushioned floor. When fully inflated, the Duraplus material provides a great deal of support to the neck and back whilst also ensuring that the hot tub retains its shape no matter how many times it’s packed down and re-installed.

The padded floor lining also features a textured mosaic pattern, which helps to provide a little grip when manoeuvring inside the hot tub. However, this can become a little uncomfortable after any longer than 4-5 hours, so you may want to look into purchasing additional seats if you intend to enjoy full afternoon-long soaks.

Running costs

Most Lay Z Spas will cost around £7-£10 per week to run, with the larger and more feature-heavy models in the brand’s range occasionally costing more.

With a water capacity of 669L, the Lay Z Spa Havana is quite a small model, with this being reflected in its energy usage.

By using the energy-saving timer and power-saving features, which can be easily controlled from within the official wi-fi app, it’s possible to reduce these running costs even further. Some customers claim to spend as little as £3-£4 per week on their energy bills.

First-time buyers should also consider maintaining their hot tub, with chemicals and filter cartridges representing a surprisingly high cost. However, Lay Z Spa often include a free chemical starter kit (worth £99) with the hot tub’s bought directly from their site.

Heat up times

With Lay Z Spa’s new and improved rapid heating system, the Havana can reach a maximum water temperature of 40 degrees Celsius within around 10 hours of installation.

Once initially heated, this hot tub can retain its temperature very well, using a combination of its insulating lining and freeze shield technology to trap the internal heat and prevent the temperature from ever dropping below 6-10 degrees Celsius.

If the Havana is stored with its insulated lid and cover firmly sealed and power running to the freeze shield. In that case, it will resist even freezing temperatures and allow you to heat the tub to your desired temperature within around 1-2 hours.

This rapid heating is made even more accessible by the wi-fi controls, allowing hot tubbers to begin heating the Havana from the comfort of their home, creating a genuinely intuitive and seamless hot tubbing experience.

How noisy is the Havana model?

All hot tubs create a noticeable amount of noise, with the air pump and massage system able to reach around 70db when operating at full power.

Thankfully, the Bestway Lay Z Spa Havana isn’t the loudest model, mainly due to its smaller size and the modest number of massaging jets. The wi-fi controls will also help you keep on top of any noise by allowing users to adjust the pump’s power from anywhere within range of the router.

If you are concerned about noise levels, we recommend installing your tub in a sheltered area of the garden, with an insulating mat underneath your unit.

Winter usage

Thanks to the previously mentioned combination of Havana’s rapid heating system and freeze shield technology, this hot tub is excellent for regular winter usage.

The freeze shield uses an array of internal sensors to constantly monitor the Havana’s internal water temperature, automatically applying heat if the temperature ever drops below 6-10 degrees Celsius.

Provided that you’re running power to the pump overnight, this will work in unison with the insulating lid and cover to prevent the water from freezing and damaging the hot tub’s pipes or pump.

Price and discounts

The Lay Z Spa Havana is towards the more expensive end of the scale in this brand’s current range; however, we think the Havana is worth the money.

With a premium build quality and wi-fi controls, this is an excellent choice for small families and couples that want a seamless jacuzzi experience.

To save a little money on your purchase, you may want to check suppliers during the off-season, when many premium models can be heavily discounted.

Warranty and support

Lay Z Spa’s standard warranty covers the hot tub’s pump for 12 months and the lid for 6 months, though this can be extended to 24 months and 12 months, respectively, by simply registering your Lay Z Spa Havana on the company’s website.

While visiting the Lay Z Spa website, you should note their UK-based support customer service number, which is staffed by industry professionals who can assist with any hot tub-related queries or questions.

Lay Z Spa Havana Reviews

The reviews of the Lay Z Spa Havana back up our point of it being one of the most popular on the market currently. It boasts excellent technology and is stylish, allowing it to sit well in the garden.

The Lay Z Spa Havana is excellent for small families and couples looking for a seamless hot tub experience packed with premium features and functionality.

We think the Havana is great for first-time buyers. The Duraplus construction ensures that the hot tub can withstand general wear and the brilliant wi-fi controls allow for the simplest and most efficient hot tub experience from this brand.

There are larger models available that can offer the same features as the Havana, so if you’re planning to regularly host any more than 3 adults in your hot tub, we suggest looking into a larger capacity model.

How Does it Compare?

The St Tropez certainly gives the Havana a run for its money, with a slightly larger interior and an eye-catching floating LED light included as standard.

It boasts the same number of massaging jets as the Havana and the same freeze protection technology, so if you’re looking for a larger hot tub with similar features to the Havana, this might be a good bet!

Read our review on the Lay Z Spa St Tropez Airjet here.

This CosySpa model offers a larger max capacity than the Havana, and a comparable massage system, though none of the CosySpa’s features can be controlled via wi-fi.

This is a good choice if you’re looking for a budget hot tub and are more concerned about available space than premium features, though our money is with the Havana.

How to Set Up The Lazy Spa Havana

The Lay Z Spa Havana can be inflated in under 10 minutes without any tools. Once inflated, fill the hot tub with fresh water (this will take 1-2h hours) and begin the heating process; your tub should be ready for use in around 6-12 hours.

Last Word

The Lay Z Spa Havana is an excellent hot tub for couples and small families. Thanks to its wi-fi controls and a pleasantly comfortable and durable construction, it has great functionality.

It’s an excellent choice for first-time buyers, with loads of premium features that will allow this hot tub to be used regularly for years and a powerful massage system that can create the quintessential hot tub experience.

The only downside is its size, with any more than 3 average-sized adults being a bit of a squeeze. Still, when enjoyed under capacity, this truly is a premium hot tub.
