This is our review of the Lay-Z-Spa inflatable surround (2023)
These days there are lots of fabulous accessories to enhance your hot tub experience and in this Lay-Z-Spa surround review, we’ll uncover if it is one of them.
We’ve spent years uncovering some of the best and worst of what the hot tub industry has to offer and believe us when we tell you that you could spend double the price of your spa on accessories.
So, is the Lay Z Spa Surround worth splashing the cash on? Do you really need one? Are there better options available, or is this a must-have for Lay-Z-Spa owners? Let’s find out!
Pros
Easy to set up. Pump up your surround seat or step with a standard foot pump or a pump you’re already using with your Lay-Z-Spa. Easy to set up in a few minutes without much exertion.
The hook and loop fasteners on each section allow you to link 3 of these segments together to form a complete ring around the Jacuzzi.
Sturdy - Made from the same tough Tritech material they use for their spas, these inflatable surrounds are robust enough for several people to sit on.
Unlike heavier wooden surrounds, the Lay-Z-Spa inflatable hot tub surround can be easily deflated and packed away when not in use freeing up more garden space.
Cons
No storage for towels etc
Although you can just buy one, you need three sections for a complete surround which makes it pretty expensive.
It obviously isn’t as sturdy as wooden or metal framed rattan surrounds
The Lay-Z-Spa surround will slowly deflate over time, as with all inflatables; this is just par for the course

This Lay-Z-Spa inflatable surround is one of Bestway’s most popular accessories. Constructed using the same Ibeam construction the brand uses for its spas, the curved sections can be used individually or fastened together to create a more enjoyable spa experience.
The first benefit of installing a hot tub surround is that it makes getting in and out of the water much easier, especially for children, the elderly or those who require more accessibility.
The area around a hot tub can be slippery so having a surround for easier access makes your spa experience much safer with less chance of accidents.
Another massive benefit of the Lay-Z-Spa surround for hot tubs is it provides somewhere to relax and dry off in comfort. No more rushing into the house to grab a towel or plodding over to a seating area that may be in another part of your garden.
This leads us nicely to the third benefit – it’s a handy place to place things without leaving them on the floor to get both dirty and wet. We think it’s a shame that this inflatable surround doesn’t have the storage of some more expensive options, but at least there is somewhere to pop your robe or towel.
The curved Lay-Z-Spa surround is 200cm x 40cm x40 cm. It can also be incorporated with the inflatable step, the dimensions of which are 200cm x 40cm x 20cm
Not surprisingly, Lay-Z-Spa’s inflatable hot tub surround is as easy to set up as the spas in just a few minutes. You can use a regular air pump or the Lay-Z-Spa pump and inflation hose to inflate the unit in minutes.
Once inflated, you can use it on its own or attach it to up to two other segments with the velcro fastening.
We’ve covered the basics, so now let’s really put this inflatable hot tub surround from Lay-Z-Spa to the test.
Undoubtedly, a surround makes soaking in your hot tub much more comfortable. Most experts recommend not staying in the water for a prolonged period; having a surround means you can continue a conversation and socialise comfortably.
You’re also not standing on one leg on the possibly slippery ground trying to get in and out of the spa elegantly.
Unlike many other options, no spanners or screwdrivers are needed to set up the Lay-Z-Spa hot tub surround and it’s as easy to install as the hot tubs themselves. Simply inflate using your pump or a standard air pump and pop it into position.
Lay-Z-Spa are well known for the quality construction of its products and the good news is the inflatable surround is made from the same super tough Tritech fabric and is exceptionally strong. However, it can be susceptible to damage like any blow-up garden furniture. You’ll find a repair patch included.
Whilst the grey Lay-Z-Spa surround matches a few of their tubs, it doesn’t complement all of them, in our opinion. Obviously, it may not be to everyone’s taste, but it blends in nicely in many cases.
As we’ve covered, the fabric the surround is made from enables it to remain outside even during the winter months, although, as with the spa itself, we recommend using a cover to protect it from damage.
At first, the Lay-Z-Spa surround may seem like great value for money but remember you will need three of them for a complete surround or two plus the step, which will see the price treble.
There’s a good chance you can buy the inflatable hot tub surround from Lay-Z-Spa stockists online or on the official website. Below are some places you may find it.
vidaXL Solid Acacia Wood Spa Surround
You will pay a little extra for this natural acacia wood surround, but it will definitely add some elegance to your inflatable spa. The aluminium frame makes this surround exceptionally strong and along with a large seating area, there is plenty of storage for all those hot tub essentials.
FEZTOY Garden Hot Tub Rattan Spa Surround
Providing privacy and protection from the elements, this brilliant surround is constructed from a PE rattan weave material and has a built-in storage area for supplies. It comes flat-packed but is easy to assemble.
Festnight Poly Rattan Hot Tub Surround
Made from tropical eucalyptus and powder-coated steel, this sturdy hot tub surround gives a touch of luxury to your hot tub, although it's around twice as much as the Lay-Z-Spa surround. There’s built-in storage to have everything you need within arm’s reach.
WANGJIANQQAVDIE Square Spa Surround
Not everyone has a round spa, so we’ve included this generic square one which creates a modern look in any garden. Like the other surrounds, it incorporates a step for easy access. There is a place for robes, towels, drinks, and a huge seating area. However, it isn’t cheap.
You should put a surround around your hot tub. It offers a more luxurious spa experience, protects the tub from damage and completes the look along with the other benefits we’ve already mentioned.
Hot tub surrounds last for years if you look after them. However, the Lay-Z-Spa inflatable surround will not last as long as a wooden, metal or rattan structure, even with the impressive i-beam construction.
You should buy the Lay-Z-Spa hot tub surround if you want a convenient option that can be inflated and deflated easily whenever you want. However, we think that for the price, you would be better investing in something more substantial and paying that little extra.
A wooden or rattan surround gives a more natural look, provides storage and will last longer if you are looking for a more permanent solution.
