What We Liked - Key Features

EnergySense insulated cover

The main feature of the Lay Z Spa Zurich is its excellent EnergySense insulated lining and cover, which work to retain the hot tub’s internal heat, and reduce any heat loss whilst the Zurich is in operation.

This brilliant technology allows the Lay Z Spa Zurich to be around 40% more efficient than comparably sized inflatable hot tubs. A fantastic choice for those interested in purchasing a home hot tub, but may be worried about the resulting energy costs.

Stylish suede-look design

Not only does the Zurich’s EnergySense lining provide unmatched energy efficiency, but it’s also finished in a stylish suede-look design, transforming this inflatable hot tub into an eye-catching statement piece in any contemporary garden.

The muted grey gives off a marble-like aesthetic, which seamlessly blends into any stone garden features you may already have installed, allowing the Zurich to remain inflated at all times and still look great in your outdoor space.

120 airjet massage system

The Lay Z Spa Zurich includes 120 of this brand’s new and improved air jets, which can be fully controlled via the digital control panel on the side of the hot tub.

With a power-saving timer also included, the Zurich adds to its excellent energy efficiency, allowing hot tub owners to keep on top of their energy bills whilst still enjoying the premium quality of this luxurious hot tub.

Is This a WI-FI Controlled Hot Tub?

The Lay Z Spa Zurich does not include any wi-fi controls, though we don’t feel this will be an issue for a hot tub of this size. If you really want this feature for your Zurich, there is a separate wi-fi controlled pump available from the manufacturer.

Does This Model Have Lighting?

There are no lights included with the Lay Z Spa Zurich. However, several additional lights and lighting accessories can be purchased directly from the manufacturer or other inflatable hot tub brands.

How Many People Can it Accommodate?

The Zurich is a relatively small hot tub with a maximum capacity of 4 adults, so this model is best enjoyed by couples or small families that aren’t regularly hosting guests.

The Zurich really shines when used under capacity, with plenty of room for a couple to fully recline and enjoy this hot tub’s excellent heat retention and complete body massage system.

What About Safety Features?

Like all Bestway Lay Z Spa models, the Zurich inflatable spa includes a secure lid and cover that helps prevent children or pets from falling in when the hot tub isn’t in use.

There’s also a built-in ground fault detection system and RCD unit, cutting the hot tub’s power if any faults are detected within the internal circuitry.

Detailed Review

How comfortable is the Zurich hot tub?

The Lay Z Spa Zurich is a very comfortable hot tub with a rapid heating system and massaging jets that produce a luxurious spa experience that can be easily enjoyed for hours on end.

The EnergySense lining not only works to retain the hot tub’s heat but provides excellent support thanks to a very durable weave and soft outer layer. There’s also a good amount of padding on Zurich’s floor, allowing hot tubbers to sit for a few hours without any aches or pains.

Running costs

The stand out feature of the Lay Z Spa Zurich is its excellent energy efficiency, allowing this model to keep its weekly costs much lower than any comparably sized inflatable hot tub.

The average energy usage for Lay Z Spa’s entire range is somewhere between £7-£10 per week, but by making use of the Zurich’s power-saving timer and EnergySense lining, we’ve heard that some customers can run this model at the cost of around £3-£4 per week!

You’ll also need to factor in the cost of chemicals and water filters, though by purchasing directly from Lay Z Spa’s website, you’ll often receive a free chemical starter pack.

Heat up times

Like all Lay Z Spa models, the Zurich uses its excellent rapid heating system and freeze shield technology to produce super-fast heating times of around 1-2 hours after its initial warm-up.

The Zurich, however, takes things one step further by using its EnergySense lining to effectively trap any residual heat, allowing the hot tub to remain at its maximum temperature for longer.

How noisy is the Zurich model?

Although the Lay Z Spa Zurich’s pump is just as loud as the other models in its range, this hot tub’s excellent energy efficiency features mean that you’re less likely to be running the pump at full power for extended periods.

Couple this with the Zurich’s smaller capacity, and you’re left with an inflatable hot tub that’s considerably quieter on average than most of its competitors.

Winter usage

The Lay Z Spa Zurich’s rapid heating system and freeze shield technology alone allow this inflatable hot tub to be used to great effect during the winter. The freeze shield’s internal sensors can automatically apply heat if the water temperature drops below 6-10 degrees Celsius.

Combine this technology with the heat retention capabilities of the EnergySense lining, and you’ll see the Zurich reach its maximum water temperature within an hour or two, even during freezing conditions.

Price and discounts

The Lay Z Spa Zurich is more expensive than similarly sized inflatable hot tubs from this brand. However, the excellent energy efficiency features can ultimately save you money if you intend to get a lot of use out of your purchase.

It’s always worth checking several suppliers and waiting for the off-season before buying, as often you’ll find premium models such as the Zurich for a surprisingly low price.

Warranty and support

The standard warranty for Lay Z Spa inflatable hot tubs is 12 months on the pump and 6 months on the lid and cover.

Many customers aren’t aware that this can actually be extended to 24 months on the pump and 12 months on the lid and cover by simply registering your hot tub on the brand’s website.

You’ll also find details about Lay Z Spa’s support line on their site, staffed by industry professionals who can help with any hot tub related issues. The customer service team can also advise on your delivery, order and installation of you need further assistance.

Lay Z Spa Zurich Reviews

The reviews of the Lay Z Spa Zurich score on average 4.2/5 stars. People praise the durability and quality of the lining stating how comfortable it is.

The Lay Z Spa Zurich is a great hot tub for couples, or for smaller families that want to enjoy the premium features of an inflatable hot tub but are concerned about the costs of running such a device.

Though the initial cost may be more than comparable models, the Zurich’s energy efficiency considerations allow this hot tub to keep its energy usage low whilst providing a luxurious hot tub experience with a full massage system and rapid heating.

If you’re planning on entertaining guests, you may want to look at a larger model, but we think the Lay Z Spa Zurich is an excellent choice for couples or small families.

How Does it Compare?

The Pacific

Whilst the Wave Spa Pacific will save you a fair bit of money in its initial cost, this model does not come close to Zurich's energy efficiency.

It’s also a little smaller than the Zurich and features fewer air jets, though the square design may fit better in your garden.

The Miami

The Miami garden spa is the most affordable circular hot tub that Lay Z Spa produces, so it’s an excellent choice for first-time buyers or those who aren't sure how much use they’ll get out of their purchase.

This model is comparable to the Zurich in terms of size and air jets. However, it lacks any of the energy efficiency features or considerations in the way of visual appeal.

How to Set Up The Lazy Spa Zurich

The Lay Z Spa Zurich features an entirely tool-free set-up; you’ll just need to inflate the hot tub with the provided pump, which will take roughly 5-10 minutes. After this, you can fill the hot tub with fresh water, which should take around 1-2 hours, then you’ll be ready to go!

Last Word

The Lay Z Spa Zurich is an excellent choice for first-time buyers who are worried about the expense of an inflatable hot tub. With significant considerations in the way of heat retention and comfort, this model can produce a luxurious hot tub experience without the electricity bills that you’d usually associate with these products.

With a stylish suede-look design and durable inner and outer liners, the Zurich will look great in any garden and easily stand up to regular use. However, its small capacity means you won’t be able to invite too many friends over to enjoy the bubbles.
